5 Runway Trends You Can Actually Wear For Fall 2015

Gloves are BACK.

Gloves are BACK.

Fashion Week has come to a close here in New York City, but in “the real world” we are trying to choose our fall wardrobes instead of thinking ahead to spring — though the inspiration is invigorating! Let's be real, though — many of these looks sent down the runway are not actually wearable; they are meant to be admired and used as a way to enthuse our daily wardrobes, unless you frequent red carpets.

There is something so exciting about the transition from summer to fall, because your whole wardrobe changes and there are so many new trends that we are presented with. Here are five that you can steal from the catwalk and actually translate into your life:

1. Embellished Cuffs

This fall, when the days start to get cooler, you will need to take a peek into your coat collection as well. Michael Kors, Celine, Marni, and more sent coats down the runway featuring various embellished cuffs that drew attention like no other. Instead of showcasing the typical fur coats that we see this time of year, designers showed us a twist — fur cuffs in different lengths added to coats made of plaid, wool, prints, and even the cozy puffy variety that we need to brave the impending Polar Vortex.

2. Lots o’gloves!

Think of gloves as last fall’s clutch — they are the new “it” accessory. Designers such as Prada made this trend dominant on the runway, highlighting gloves of all colors, lengths, and embellishments (think fringe, lace, and fingerless options), proving that a simple glove will make your look this fall. Don’t be afraid to step outside the box!

3. Gray suits

Well, 50 Shades of Grey has found its place on the runway! Toss your boring black dress suits goodbye and welcome some new gray pieces to your wardrobe. This monochromatic trend can easily make its way into your bedroom, too.

4. Plaid

I have to say, this is one of my absolute favorite trends, and I already have pieces hanging in my closet since plaid has been a fairly dominant trend in the past years as well. Now, don’t go spending thousands on a billowing silk plaid skirt that is lined with layers of tulle in the department store window, as you will never wear it. Add plaid to your wardrobe in these easy ways: belts, tights (see below), button down shirts, blazers, coats, and pencil skirts.

5. Fun tights

Tights are everything this season! We have to cover up our legs, right? We might as well do it with fashionable intent! Patterned tights had a huge place on the runways, especially with designer St. Laurent, under skirts, dresses, and even with open-toed shoes — oh my!
